A "GREEN" VALENTINE - PCP CHALLENGE

It's time to go to Paper Craft Planet for our 3D Challenge! What's "green" and "red"? A reusable (that's the "green" part) Valentine's (the "red" part) hot drink sleeve! Make this special Valentine's Day cozy for teachers, family, BFF, or yourself! You can make it out of whatever material you have handy in your craft supply -- like felt, cork sheet, foam sheet, lined fabric or heavy card stock!

Here's a quick tutorial on how I made this cozy with a Valentine's Day theme:

SUPPLIES
Cozy Template (PDF download here)
Felt - Red and White
Ribbon
Embellishment
Thread and Needle, Sewing Machine or Strong Glue

1. Cut template and trace onto Felt (adjust template if needed).
2. Cut hearts, line upper edge and attach. I ran a straight stitch using a sewing machine, but you can also use strong glue or fabric glue.
3. Attach ribbon to bottom edge.
4. Join sides together and add embellishments.

To change the look or color of the cup, trace cup onto card stock, cut and adhere sides together.

Valentine 3D Hop and Prizes!

I'm so happy to share with you our new templates -- especially for that LOVE-ly holiday known as Valentine's Day! My first project was made using the SHADOW BOX FRAME SET (the set includes two window designs). In this project I added the photo of one of my girls at 18 months... such a LOVE-ly and appropriate photo to use with the heart frame! Take a look at the built-in stand!

My next project was made using the SURPRISE PURSE template. I wasn't sure what to call this template, but "surprise" came to mind when you open the purse flap. The gift card (or photo or note or sweets) automatically slides up when the purse is opened... and slides back in when closed! It's a fun way to present a gift card!

My last project was made using the LIGHTHOUSE template, which I actually just finished so not even the other AR Girls have seen this! This gift box stands at 8 inches tall and can house a tea light (battery-operated only PLEASE!). Makes a wonderful centerpiece!

FUN FOAM OVERLAY- 3d146

I'm hosting the 3D Tuesday Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet and this week I'd like to share with you a couple of projects I made with foam sheets that's both fast and easy! One project is a mouse pad and the other a coaster.

SUPPLIES:
Foam Sheets - two or more colors (adhesive-backed is preferred, but not necessary)
Adhesive Sheet or Red Sticky Tape
Die Cut Machine
Die

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut two squares of foam sheet in the same color (I used 6x6 for the mouse pad and 5x5 for the coaster).
2. Place die on top of one of the square sheets where you want the design, then run it through your die cutting machine.
3. Using the same die, run it through the machine using the second color.

4. Place adhesive sheet on the uncut square sheet (the base). (Sticky Tape can also be used, just make sure to cover all edges along with several strips in center). Peel cover.
5. Adhere the square piece with the die cut over the base.
6. Squeeze in second color into cut area(s).

Secret Santa - Layering Tutorial

This week I'm hosting Fran*tage Friday over at Paper Craft Planet which is being sponsored by our friends at Stampendous! Today I will show you how to layer identical images to take the flatness out of stamping! The stamp set I’m using for this project is Cling Secret Santa along with the fun Aged Gold Embossing Enamel, which I heat embossed on vellum for the sentiment.

Since cutting can be a tedious task, especially if you’re cutting a lot of the same image, I wanted to find a way to cut several of the same image only once. To do this, you’ll need a sturdy box at least 2 inches high and wide enough to be able to stamp inside it. You may need to remove one or two of the sides like I did to accommodate my stamping mat.

YOU'LL NEED:
• Stamp mat
• Adhesive and Dimensionals
• Scissors
• Stamp, ink, handle
• 4-5 sheets of card stock large enough to stamp image

HOW TO:
1. Place one sheet of card stock against corner of box.

2. Position stamp onto the Jumbo Perfectly Clear Handle; ink stamp.
3. Align corner of handle with the corner of card stock and box; apply even pressure.

4. Apply adhesive to all corners of card stock and lay a second sheet over the first. Repeat step 3 two or more times.

5. Stamping this way allows all images to be aligned. Cut close to the edge of image through all layers.

6. Color Images. No need to color bottom layers perfectly since they'll be hidden.

7. Apply several Dimensionals on top of bottom layer; adhere the second image over it.

8. Decide which parts of the image you want raised; stamp and cut. Attach all smaller pieces. Continue layering as desired.

Welcome to Day 1 of 12 Days of 3D Christmas! As some of you may know, I LOVE 3d projects, so I’m super excited about the next 12 days! The AR Girls and I will be sharing some of our holiday projects with you! There will be prizes, inspirations, and daily deals! Please visit the Creations by AR Paper Craft Planet Group for all the details and to see what the design team has come up with.

A few years ago during the Holiday Season, I placed a bowl by our entryway filled with little wrapped treats for friends who happened to stop by. They were inexpensive gifts like mini toy cars, picture books, chocolates, lotto scratchers, etc., and they made our visitors feel special!

My project for you today reminds me of that Christmas bowl. I used three templates:

Tray Chic: This is a one-piece tray (with optional coordinating pieces) that is so fast and easy to make. Simply tie ribbons/strings to hold the corners or slip one long piece to go all the way around.

Library Pocket Set: I recently purchased glassine bags but just couldn't find them in my stash of overflowing craft supplies. So, I ended up using the Library Pocket template to make my own bags. Add some embellishments and you've got a goodie bag to hold scratchers, chocolates, wrapped cookies, gift cards, etc...

Ornament Basics: This just adds that "holiday" touch to just about anything!

3D Tuesday Challenge -- Gift Tag!

Here's how to make one:
1. Cut, score and fold along yellow dotted lines.

2. Apply adhesive to side tab; fold over and adhere to inside of opposite edge.

3. Decorate and slip knotted string through both holes.

A Little History
I remember when I first started stamping, Susanna's Blog, the Barefoot Stamper, was one of my frequent stops for inspiration. The name of her blog intrigued me, so I sent her an email to ask the dumb question: Do you really go around in bare feet? Her answer was yes and for some reason, I felt connected with her from that point on. We finally met at CHA in Anaheim a couple of years ago and without a doubt, she truly is a lovely person. I'm honored to call Susanna my friend!

About my project for her.... because she loves to relax with a glass of wine, I made this "Bottle of Cheer" template especially for her! It has an insert inside the box for holding fun tubes!

Cork It!

Happy Friday, everyone! Over at Paper Craft Planet every Friday is Fran*tage Friday! The PCP super novas take turns featuring a technique using fabulous products from Stampendous! It's my turn today and I'm going to show you how easy it is to work with cork sheets. Oh, did I mention... there's a prize involved every week from Stampendous? I have to say, their products are fabulous! Their new line (Fran*tage) has such elegant jumbo images, not to mention their new Fran*tage Essentials: Embossing Enamels, Embossing Tinsels, Mica Fragments... I've recently worked with these products and they are so different from your normal embossing powders!

The project I made for today is a 5x7 scrapbook with inside pockets and 10 sheets of card stock. The cover is made using chipboard (or you can use thick cardboard) and adhesive cork sheet (I used Contact® brand). They're easily put together using Bind-It-All®. But you don't have to make a book -- try making a card using cork sheets. You'll be surprised how easy it is to work with these; even coloring with markers is a cinch!

Winter Trees

Join us over at Challenges by AR where we are having a Christmas challenge! Yup, the holidays are coming fast, so with that in mind, we decided to make our challenge a practical one... make a shaped card or 3D project with Christmas as the theme! Easy enough!

Speaking of easy, here is a brand new Winter Tree Set that aren't just decorations... they open up at the bottom so you can use them as gift boxes! I wanted to keep the design simple -- just ribbon draped diagonally and dropped a star trinket pin into each "treetop." The stars were originally clear (like the one on the green tree), but they were easily colored with Copic markers.

FALL AGLOW - PCP Challenge

Happy Fall, everyone! I'm hosting this week's 3D Tuesday over at Paper Craft Planet! Fall is upon us and just the other day, my daughter mentioned how she loves seeing the different colors of leaves on the trees. It's not too common where we live (in Southern California), but there are some lovely Autumn colors around -- we just have to look for them sometimes! That gave me the idea for this week's challenge.

My inspiration came from a set of 16 glass votives that I purchased last Summer for only $5.00 using a coupon -- great deal, huh? I wanted to incorporate the beautiful colors of Fall leaves using glass votives as a base. So, the challenge is: Decorate a glass container (clean jar or glass votive) using a Fall theme. I decided to use Fall leaves for my project, but you can use anything Fall related.

Since Fall colors are sometimes hard to come by around here, I had to come up with an alternative to make my own Fall leaves. Here's how I made mine:

SUPPLIES:
Alcohol Inks in various Fall colors
Felt and Applicator for the inks
Vellum paper
Glue dots
Glass votives or clean jar
Twine/Ribbon
Tea Lights (I used the flameless ones)

You can also use: Dried leaves or thin paper like mulberry, crepe paper, tissue, lightweight paper, etc. If using real leaves, they should be flexible enough to wrap around container without cracking. Trim as needed to fit size of glass container.

HOW TO MAKE VELLUM LEAVES:

1. Randomly dab and rub inks on vellum using felt and applicator.

2. Tear vellum into leaf shapes (A)

3. Fold "leaf" in half lengthwise; crease (B)

4. Form "veins" by creasing diagonally from side edge to middle crease on both sides (C, D)

5. Attach to glass with glue dots.

6. Tie ribbon or twine around glass to secure leaves.

Whether you're using paper or real leaves, the tips should not go past the top of the glass container to prevent catching on fire.

Delicious Fall - 3D Tuesday at PCP

Hello friends and thanks for stopping by! I'm hosting this week's 3D Tuesday Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet! I've finally begun to accept that Summer is just about over so I thought I'd make a Fall project to get me in the mood! The challenge? Make a Fall "wall basket" from any template, or use the one I designed HERE. For a limited time, a free PDF version of the template can be found on 3D Tuesday.

Hanging on my front porch window is metal version of this basket and when seasons change, so does the flower or foliage that goes inside it. The template for this is actually a mini version of the one I have hanging outside, which was my inspiration.

Inside I placed a bag of one of my favorite things.... chocolates! The flower embellishments were made by layering punched out paper flowers of different sizes, crumpled and distressed. The hanger I used is fabric wrapped wire that was originally white and sponged with caramel ink.

This is the Garden Can-Can Set which includes not only the watering can template, but the seed packet (Seed Envy) is sized to fit right inside the can! I think this would make a great gift for anyone who loves to garden. If you don't want to put the seed packets inside, try placing tags, sweets, paper flowers -- or even real flowers (place stems in water tubes first!)

Welcome to the Creations by AR New Release Blog Hop!

ONCE UPON A TIME.... as a child, I loved stories that began with those words and often, there would be a castle in the story. Here's my version of a castle. It's actually a gift box with three compartments: one tall tower box in the middle and two open compartments on each side. The sides can hold many things like crayons, sweets, trinkets, etc. The tower box is large enough to hold 3" x 3" note cards or a small gift. As you can see in the photo below, the roof of the tower opens and is kept closed by tying a string or ribbon through the holes. The castle might look complicated, but once all the pieces are cut, it takes just minutes to put together!

What's a castle without a royal carriage? This ONCE UPON A CARRIAGE is so easy to make even if you don't have a cutting machine! It makes a great favor box and can be designed for a knight or for a princess!

With the school year starting again, I couldn't resist making hi-top and low-top sneakers. Put some goodies inside these SNEAKIES to hand out as party favors or do what my sister is planning to do: make these out of fabric for her granddaughter's dolls!

Masculine Birthday Challenge!

Join us at the CHALLENGES by AR blog for another fun challenge hosted by the super-duper Vicki Garrett! As usual, there's also a chance to win a template of your choice just by playing along with us!

The theme is Masculine Birthday! and for my project, I used the Take Out Pizza template, which I recently revised to include an insert for holding gift cards. How did I make this "masculine"? Well, I've recently fallen in love with using empty soda cans (washed and flattened!) to use as embellishments. They cut so easily and works great with die cutters, punches and embossing folders. I keep a stash in my work area to grab when needed. I simply cut a square piece of metal, placed in inside an embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot. I then framed it by layering it on top of another square card stock and attached to the top of my box.

The inside of the box can easily hold 3" x 3" notecards and envelopes, but for this, I used the gift card (or photo) holder insert. The template is also designed so the box is sturdy and easy to make!

I also used this project for 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet, which I'm hosting this week. The theme is to design a pizza box "For The Man!" Hope you can join me there as well.

Quick Note...

Just a quick post here... I know it's been a while. Summer has a way of taking time away from our already busy schedule for other things in life. Thanks to all who commented and emailed me about my father. Since my last post, he has been in and out of the hospital a couple of times already. He's back home now with my sister, who is working around the clock watching over him. Families are the best!

Life's a Challenge!

Just wanted to let you know that Challenges by AR has a new challenge for you! Go check out what the Challenge Team has come up with for inspiration. There will be a prize for the winner so you'll want to submit your project before August 4th.

I won't be participating in this challenge, but if things work out, I'll post something later.

Aside from my frequent migraines, I found out a few hours ago that my father was admitted to the hospital. They're running a series of tests right now, so we won't know for sure what's going on for quite a while. A few years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and has been deteriorating rapidly. He lives about 500 miles away, so depending on what his tests show, I may end up flying to San Francisco to be with him. If any of you know about that disease, you know how their memory goes fast. He used to just forget our names, but now he doesn't know who his family is most of the time. This photo was taken about two years ago at my niece's wedding. 3d124 - Challenge with Prize

I'm hosting this week's 3D Tuesday Challenge at Paper Craft Planet! There was a project posted by Diane Zechman of Paper Cookies, of a tissue box cover, along with a tutorial and video. This had inspired me to make this the challenge for this week. I got a little carried away and decided to make my own template (Tissue Pot) with a tapered shaped box which I've just added to my shop.

What I love about making my own tissue box holder is that now I don't have to search the store shelves for the right design on the tissue boxes to match my home! Sometimes I end up buying the more expensive box just because of the color! Well, forget that! Just make a holder for it and hide the original box!

Good-Bye Sweet Angel

Last week, to honor our 12 year old Shiba Inu, Angel, I made a digital stamp and cutting file of her. She had been sick a lot the last few months and I had a feeling that she didn't have much time left so, I wanted to make something just for her.

Then Saturday morning, my husband took Angel to the vet to see if there was anything she could do to make Angel better, or at least make her feel more comfortable. Instead, she said that Angel would probably get worse and because of all the suffering she's been going through, it would be best to put her to sleep.

After the vet's appointment, my husband brought her home so our two girls and I could say good-bye to our sweet Angel. We spent the next hour and a half showing her our love and trying to play with her. Her discomfort was so evident that we knew the vet's suggestion was for the best. The saddest part was watching her take her last ride to the animal hospital. There she sat in the back seat watching us wave good-bye to her and hearing us tell her we loved her.

She will be greatly missed.

A Wild Experience and a Wild Purse!

Can you believe this Gift Card Purse only took me 15 minutes to make? I really needed something fast and easy to make and this was the perfect project. I'm adding this to our Challenges by AR Wild Prints Challenge going on right now until the 14th. Hope you're checking every day to see if your comments have made you one of our daily winners!

The reason I needed to make something very easy and fast is because the last 24 hrs was just a nightmare for me!

I had a horrible accident as I was getting ready to take a shower Monday night... I had forgotten my hair conditioner on the counter so I stepped out of the shower to grab it. Now I ALWAYS use my flip flops on that tiled bathroom floor, but for some dumb reason, I decided to take the six foot walk to the counter with my wet feet. As I turned around to head back into the shower, I slipped and fell very hard, hitting my forehead on the way down and hitting the corner of our tub. Never have I bled so much in my life -- blood everywhere! On my hands, face, floor -- it was literally dripping and puddling on the floor as I tried to get up. Luckily, my dear husband was in the next room and rescued me from the mess I'd made. He wanted to get me to the ER if the bleeding didn't stop, but luckily, it stopped about an hour later. Having a doctor for a husband sure has it's benefits. He cleaned the wound really well, patched me up and observed me the next couple of hours. Was I scared? You bet! I even went as far as giving him instructions on how to close up my website and to notify a couple of people to take care of things, etc... I'm sure I scared him with my "last requests." Anyway, all day Tuesday I suffered not only from pain in my entire head, but apparently I had injured my left knee and both arms. I've always heard about horror stories of head injuries, but thank goodness looks like I'll be okay.

The first challenge is to use Wild Prints and here's my project. I used the new Bag It template to make my Cheetah Bag. It's wide enough to hold tags, 3" x 3" note cards or a small gift. I can't remember ever making anything with wild prints before, so this was quite a challenge for me! The cheetah print is actually fabric and the string of beads was in my stash of "Things to Use One Day." Hope you like it!

NEW RELEASE -- HOP TO IT!

I'm so excited to finally have this release! First I want to say that I love the AR Design Team and I'm so blessed that they are willing to share their talents in creating gorgeous crafts. I love you ladies!

The first template I want to share with you is the ELEGANT SOLE. I received a request to make a shoe template, so right away I went online and found this Manolo Blahnik slingback shoe. It's simple and delicate, but for $700, I think I'll stick to making paper shoes!

Here's my version of that slingback -- of course you can always remove the strap to make it a slip-on mule.

In the photo with the turquoise shoe (above) is the GIFT CARD PURSE. This has a slot inside that can hold a gift card, photo or note!

I made several of these Gift Card Purses for my daughter's dance group. Inside I put gift cards to give to them as gifts.

Another template also available today is the TRAY CHIC! This tray is so easy to make! The one pictured above I used as a picture frame, but it can also be used to serve cookies or just hold note cards!

There is one last item that isn't on the list to release today, but is available: the WINDOW DRESSING set! It's a digital stamp AND cutting file to use for scrap booking, card making or just to decorate with. My previous post used two of the five pieces in this set. Along with the dress form, there's also a gown, a short dress and an apron with tie.

Here's the apron and tie on the dress form.

The one below is the image/cut file of a gown.

I cut these using my brand new Silhouette SD -- so fun and easy!

Riddersholm Designs "Window Shopping" *Prize

If you're a follower of Paper Craft Planet, you'll know that the past few Saturdays, we've been presenting projects made by our very special sponsor, Riddersholm Designs, a Danish paper company. When I received the package of their papers, ribbons and embellishments, I was in awe of the quality and designs! The papers were designed by Connie (owner), produced in Denmark and marked with the Scandinavian environmental seal "Svanemaerket," meaning it was produced to protect our environment. Love that!

The projects I made reminded me of going window shopping -- the dress in the store window and of course, a purse (which is actually a gift card holder). The paper set I used for my projects is from the "Turquoise Hills" set, which has a lovely vintage feel. As you can see from my photos, they all have a bit of turquoise (one of my favorite colors) in them. For the photos, I used papers from that set to make a "studio wall."

My first project is a card with several layers. I used my brand new Silhouette to cut the dress and dress form and adhered it to the card with dimensionals to make it 3d-ish. The ribbon and flower are also from Riddersholm Designs. To pretty up the dress, I added some half pearls and to give it the distressed look, I used "Tea Dye" distress ink on all the layers.

Here's the purse gift card holder with that gorgeous cameo pendant! I wish you could see how beautiful this pendant is! To attach it to the box, I slipped the lacy ribbon through the slot where the purse flap normally goes into, then I attached it to the pendant and tied a bow.

Here's the inside of the purse. (Just pretend the gift card inside this purse was for a dress shop; the only gift card I had available was for coffee.)

Sweet Jacket - Tutorial

Sweet? That's right... there's a chocolate bar in that suit! With Father's Day coming up, I wanted to make something related to fathers. This actually looks like one of the sports jacket my husband wears.

I'm hosting this week's 3D Tuesday for Paper Craft Planet and the challenge (3d118) is to make a paper craft project that reminds you of a special father. If you'd to play along, please join me at the 3D Tuesday Group to share your project for this special occasion.

SUPPLIES
Paper: Black, White, Patterned Paper
Acc: Button, Adhesive, Candy Bar

Measurements
Patterned Paper: Measure length of candy bar. For width, wrap all the way around the bar and add 1/4".
Black: Length and width of bar minus 1/8" of width.
White: "A": Length and width of bar minus 1/8" of width. "B": Same as "A" minus 1" to 2" of length. "C": Half the length of "B."

Trim bottom corner of "jacket."

Place both black and white "A" pieces in center of wrong side of jacket as shown; adhere to inside of "jacket."

Place candy bar over all three pieces.

Fold black piece over candy bar.

Fold "A" over candy bar. Trim where it meets top of black piece.

Adhere "jacket" fronts where it meets; add button.

Fold back both "lapels."

Shirt: Trim bottom corners of "B" with corner rounder punch.

Score and fold 3/8" of top edge of "C."

Turn "C" over; fold both top corners towards center at an angle until corners meet -- approximately 1/4" - 1/2" below top edge.

Trim along red curved line.

Apply adhesive under "collar" and adhere to center back of "B."

Cut tie from scraps; adhere under the "collar."

Add sentiment to "shirt" and insert into "jacket."

That's it! Lots of steps, but pretty easy.

Fran*tage Friday: Alcohol Inks on Metal

Paper Craft Planet's Super Novas have partnered up with Stampendous to bring you Fran*tage Fridays! For several weeks we'll be showing you a technique each Friday using the new Fran*tage line of stamps from Stampendous. The best part is..... You can win the stamps shown in our demonstrations just by leaving a comment on the Paper Craft Planet Blog!

This is the fourth week of Fran*tage Friday and today I'm demonstrating how to use alcohol inks on metal. What I love about this technique is that it's not only fun, but you can be "green" by recycling empty soda cans! Of course, there's always metal sheets for purchase.

SUPPLIES:
Alcohol Inks (I used Oregano and Red Pepper)
Alcohol Metallic Mixative, optional (Gold)
Alcohol Blending Solution (Copic Colorless Blender Re-Inker also works)
Alcohol Ink Applicator and Felt
Metal Sheet
Sanding File
Embossing Folder
Cutting Dies
Scissors

STEP 1:
Cut metal sheet to size you need for project.

STEP 2:
Squeeze a few drops of one of the alcohol inks onto the metal.

STEP 3:
With the felt attached to the applicator tool, begin tamping over the inked area until the colors are distributed on the sheet; let dry. Feel free to twist the applicator a bit when tamping to create different shapes.

STEP 4:

Repeat Step 3 with the second color.

STEP 5 (optional):
On the same felt, apply some of the Gold Metallic Mixative (outlined in gold) then add a drop of the blending solution next to it (see blue circle). Apply randomly onto the metal sheet. This will add a bit of shimmer and the solution will help blend and distribute the color. The blending solution is also used to lighten color.

STEP 6:

Cut sheet with a die cutter.

STEP 7:

Emboss with an embossing folder.

STEP 8:

With a sanding file, sand the raised areas.

It's now ready to add to cards or other craft projects!

Piece o' Cake Challenge!

It's Tuesday and time for another 3D Tuesday Challenge on Paper Craft Planet! A couple of years ago, I decorated a paper cake favor box with a template you can buy already cut. I know there are lots of "cake" templates available out there, but I had so much fun decorating that one that I wanted to make one for myself with extra stuff! I want custom toppings, have different styles of opening -- and one I can use with my cutting machine!

This is the cake I decorated two years ago!

During this challenge, I'm going to provide the PDF file for a basic cake which I used to make the Chocolate Boston Cream Pie pictured above! (I'm still working on the different styles and accessories to go with this set and the completed set of cake templates should be available very soon). When I'm finished designing all the pieces to this cake set, I will be GIVING AWAY the complete set to one of the participants of this challenge!

HERE'S HOW TO WIN:

• Make a slice of cake out of paper (use any template you want) and decorate it!!!

Quick! I Need a Gift!

As usual, my husband tells me things at the very last minute. Last week was Secretary's Week and of course he never mentioned to me anything about getting gifts for the secretaries. It was too late to buy gifts so I suggested getting gift cards. I didn't want him to just hand them the gift cards with no card or packaging. Of course not! -- and making two cards would have taken me too much time so I thought of making gift card holders with a tag that he can write a personal note on. Both took me about an hour to make.

SUPPLIES
Paper: White, Pear, DCWV Patterned Paper
Acc: Scalloped Oval Nestability Die (Spellbinder), Oval Punch and 1/8" Circle Punch (SU!), Organza Flower and Leaves Cutting File (Creations by AR), Wired Thread (DMC), Organza Ribbon.

QUICK INSTRUCTIONS:
• Cut Patterned Paper 12" x 4" and score at 3-3/4" and 8-3/4" (you're left with 3-1/4")
• Trim short end (at the 3-1/4" side) in an oval shape -- or keep it straight or "V-shaped".
• At the other short end (the 3-3/4" side), punch a half oval at center.
• Fold that end over towards the middle and adhere at both edges.
• Decorate, slip the gift card inside and tie with a ribbon to keep it closed.

I'm so excited to share with you the Ribbon Keeper and Menu Keeper and Stand, along with a new digital image/cutter file, Chelsea Dancer, which was inspired by my sweet daughter. First is my cutter file, which I made especially for my daughter's dance showcase announcement.

CHELSEA DANCER:
For this announcement, I took out my sewing machine to sew the velum and patterned paper to the Kraft card stock to make a pocket. After distressing the edges, I added a simple bow and button. Using my cutting machine, I cut several silhouettes of the Chelsea Dancer image and attached it to the front of pocket. This cutting file is also available as a digital stamp. (All supplies from SU!).

MENU KEEPER and STAND:
Here's a great organizer for recipes (also perfect for organizing cards!). The Menu Keeper and Stand comes with the organizer box, the dividers and stand for displaying recipes, photos or cards! The organizer on the right is for organizing cards, using the dividers to separate the different categories.

I also made one as a Menu Keeper with the Stand, which is PERFECT to use with the "Compliments to the Chef" and "From the Kitchen Of" SU! stamp sets! (All supplies from SU!)

RIBBON KEEPER:
This is one of my favorite projects! It's so handy and looks really pretty that you wouldn't want to hide your embellishment containers or ribbon spools!

Two sizes are included in this template: one for small and regular ribbon spools (which also holds eight SU! containers); and the other size holds the larger spools.

Peek-A-Boo Challenge

It's 3D Tuesday and here's my project for this week's challenge! It's a suitcase made from a tweaked matchbox! I'm still not sure why I even added a window because I could not find any treats in the house to put inside it. I had an empty cellophane bag ready to fill with goodies, but none to be found -- and no, I did not eat them all... my daughter helped a lot! So for now, let's just say it's empty so you can see the pretty paper that I lined the inside with!

The challenge is to make a box -- any box -- that has some type of "window" for peeking into.

New Release Hop with Prizes!

If you're here, then you've just joined the Creations by AR Blog Hop! My design team has come up with some great new projects to share with you using our new templates, so be sure to click on their links for a visit and if you leave a comment, even better! You will automatically be entered to win one of our new release templates just for doing so!

This first one is called the Tea Cottage, for obvious reasons! It's an adorable little cottage that dispenses tea bags! All the little pieces you see here are included in the set, including the fence (which you can use over and over again especially if you have a cutting machine!) and the wrought iron flourish window, which is a BONUS GIFT only until the end of March.

Notice the bottom step opening? That's there to keep the tea bags safe inside. Close it and the bags are tucked neatly inside.

My next template is the Pot O' Tea shaped card (which I made using the same paper as the Tea Cottage). I designed the inside mechanism of this card to stop at a certain point so when it's pulled up, the card stays in one piece.

Speaking of one piece, here's my new box template for holding gifts or giving as a favor. My sample for Now That's Smashing! is actually a pen/pencil holder that looks like a flower in a pot (the main reason for designing the box in a trapezoid shape!). The fun thing about this box is closing it -- "smash" the top down and voila!

The Golden Nugget - Challenge 3d104

Happy Tuesday! That means that the 3D Tuesday Challenge is here and I've got another template for you! When making this template, I thought it looked like a bar of soap. But then I thought how much the shape looked like a gold nugget, which is why I call it the Golden Nugget Box. The box measures 4" x 2.5" x 1.5" and during the challenge, I'll have the PDF file available for those who want to play along.

SUPPLIES
Paper: Kraft, Black, Vanilla, Natural, Elegant Soiree (SU DSP)
Ink: Tea Distressing Ink (Ranger)

The challenge for this week is to make a gift box topped with flowers -- any type of flowers. These are so handy to have around, especially if you need a small container for special notes, jewelry, sachets, sweets, etc...

You probably already have a template for a square gift box, but if you'd like to use the one I made (2" x 2" x 2"), I'll have this template available for download this week.

Baby, Baby, Baby Ohhh!

I'm an aunt! Actually, it's my 37th time, so that makes 18 nieces and 19 nephews. Phew! You can't even imagine what it's like at Christmas time back home -- it's the best!!

I made this card for her (from the Baby Onesies set) using layers of tulle and a pretty "rosette" ribbon that I've had in my ribbon stash. It was finally time to use it and the occasion was perfect. I originally started out by making a little muu'muu (Hawaiian dress), but it was just way too bright. Her mom owns a dance studio in San Francisco that specializes in Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing, so I thought it would be appropriate... maybe next time! For now, I think this sweet card will do.

No Plants Here - 3D Challenge

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and here's what I have for you this week.

I don't think anyone has killed more plants than I have, so why do I still have clay pots and saucers in my garage? Rather than getting rid of them, I decided to rescue some of the clay saucers. Here's a project I made with one of them. They can easily be used as coasters or candle holders and you can make them to match your decor!

Here's a quick tutorial on how to make these.

SUPPLIES
Clay Saucer (any size)
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Fabric or Patterned Paper
Felt (optional)
Adhesive

Step 1: Wipe any dust or dirt off the saucer and paint with acrylic paint (this dries fairly quickly).

Step 2: Measure the inside of the saucer and cut a piece of fabric (or paper*) slightly smaller than the inside. Adhere to the inside center.

* Paper is fine to use for a "catch all," but if making a coaster, you will need to apply a sealer (Mod Podge or clear acrylic sealer) after attaching the paper to the saucer. Otherwise, fabric works great and won't warp like paper.

Step 3 (Optional): Measure, cut and adhere felt to the bottom of saucer for avoiding scratches on surfaces.

Step 4: Decorate!

Another New Valentine Template

For my first project, I had little Love Birds in mind for this bird cage template, but I decided to make this "Home Tweet Home" template as a tea light candle holder instead. NO, I did NOT use a real tea light -- it's battery operate! I covered the openings with vellum paper and simply placed the fake candle inside with no worries! The roof (comes with or without openings) easily lifts and stays put with a "hinge."

Key to My Heart

This is another Heart Basket I made using the same template from yesterday's post. The first project I made (the pink one with the butterfly) didn't show at all that it was a favor box, but in this photo, you can see part of the side. It's 1-1/4" deep, perfect size for some Valentine's Day chocolates. Oh, and it's also big enough to hold bling -- as in, jewelry from your honey! Anyway, make one for him to use, but make sure he sees the jewelry section of the store ads.

Gift Bag or Ornament?

Last Saturday, I treated my best friend to watch my favorite singer, Michael Buble', in concert. I just LOVE his voice and even though I've been to his concert twice before, he was totally worth the big bucks to watch again! Wow, he gave such a great show! We had a blast! Anyway...

I'm so glad it's finally Friday because now my girls are officially on Christmas vacation and that means I can sleep in!! It's been quite a busy week with all the shopping and Christmas programs going on, so I'm really looking forward to relaxing at home, wrapping presents and baking!

Speaking of wrapping presents, I wanted to share with you a felt bag that I made to hold smaller presents (like jewelry). It measures 3" x 3" x 2" and to close the bag, you simply pull the ribbon. Oh, and it also looks great as an ornament on the tree! If the thought of sewing scares you, don't worry -- you can easily use fabric glue! If any of you are interested, I will be post the tutorial for this bag soon.

This project started out as gift boxes, but I got carried away and made it into a home decor! I started with the "Framed Box" template that I made a few months ago (photo left), but instead of the rectangle cut-out, I replaced them with letters. This would also look awesome with mini lights inside them.

Christmas Seat

This chair box can hold a variety of gifts and things inside the seat (2" x 2"). In the photo, I added some hard candies inside, but I think I'll use this box for one of the necklaces my daughter will be giving to one of her friends for Christmas... just three more to go! The "seat cover" can be lifted off to reveal the inside.

The challenge this week over at Flourishes Timeless Tuesday is to make a 3D Christmas gift item. Well I love 3D so I had to play along!

Over at Simon Says Stamp, the challenge is to make a Christmas item with NO Red or Green! It's always nice to use other colors than the traditional, but it really was a challenge avoiding the red and green.

I love Red and White together, so I made another card for the Play Date Cafe challenge. Actually, this is a tag card and qualifies for the challenge over at The Shabby Tea Room, which was to make a shaped card.

Making this took too many steps, but I had fun making it anyway! Last week, I had stamped the bird cage and made the stand using craft wire, but I had set them aside because I wasn't sure what to do with them, until now. The finished size is 3" x 5" and opens up so you can write on the inside.

Christmas Shoe

This card is for my best friend.

Eight years ago, a movie on TV came out called "The Christmas Shoes," a very touching story about a mom dying from cancer and her little boy who wanted to buy her a pair of beautiful dancing shoes so she would look pretty when she went up to heaven. The mom lost her battle with cancer on Christmas Eve. Needless to say, it was quite a tearjerker.

Eight years ago, I had two best friends and the three of us did just about everything together. Our kids were like brothers and sisters and our husbands were great friends. When "The Christmas Shoes" came out, one of my best friends was already fighting liver cancer and was deteriorating rapidly. After watching the movie one night, I remember thinking, "I hope she doesn't die on Christmas Eve just like the girl in the movie... that would be so devastating!" Anyway, around 1:00 pm on December 24th, I went to her house to say my goodbye. At around 8:30 that evening, my friend took her last breath, leaving two little boys and a husband. So now, there are only two of us BFFs and whenever we see a pair of red shoes, we both can't help but think of our dear friend.

The challenge over at The Play Date Cafe was to use Red and White on a card or project and I immediately thought of this image! I wish I can remember where I got the digital image of this beautiful shoe. If anyone knows where it came from, please let me know so I can give credit to them.

This card is also for the Stamps R Us challenge, which was to create a holiday card.

Easy Ornament Challenge

This is one of the easiest ornaments you can make! It takes just a few minutes and you've got a new ornament to hang on the tree. Join me as I host this week's 3D Tuesday Challenge (3d90) over at Paper Craft Planet. Here's all you need to make one:

SUPPLIES
Card Stock or Patterned Paper
Circle Punch (I used 1-3/4")
String
Adhesive

Punch out 10 - 12 circles and fold each in half.

Apply adhesive to one-half of one folded circle and attach to another folded circle. Continue until there is only one panel left.

If adding embellishments, like beads, attach to string now.

Apply adhesive to "spine" of folded circles and attach string (folded in half) placing the fold at the bottom of ornament.

Apply adhesive to the last circle; adhere.

Jewelry Cube Box

So, are we all tired of turkey yet? Well, I am! I hosted this year's Thanksgiving dinner and I couldn't have done it without my daughter. She helped so much in preparing the house and did about half of the cooking. I'm so blessed! Which brings me to this Jewelry Box. As a fund raiser for her Dance Ensemble, "we" sold jewelry and we're able to keep 75% of the profit -- needed to help buy costumes. I ended up buying about six of them and each one needed a box to put them into.

The 3D Tuesday Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet came in just in time! Our host last week is Jinky and she shows us how we can make one of these cute little boxes. I made mine to be 2" x 2" x 2", which was the perfect size to hold each piece of jewelry. I then added batting inside the box to hold the necklaces in place. You can find the download link to her instructions HERE (scroll down to the end of the post). She used "cm" in her measurements rather than inches -- google "conversion charts" to get the exact measurements. I didn't have too much patience converting due to my headache, so I decided to just improvise and make my own template in inches.

Slotted Gift Box

My daughter's dance team is having lots of fun with their "Secret Santa" exchange. It's a fun way to exchange Christmas gifts without that person knowing who is giving them their gifts. Once a week until Christmas vacation, the girls are secretly playing "Santa" to one of their teammates. The gifts are only $5.00 each for five weeks, so it's not that bad. Anyway, we bought a $5 gift card to give and of course I didn't want to put it in just a plain ol' envelope! Instead, I made a special box for the gift card... I call it the "Slotted Gift Box."

The gift card is inserted into a slot inside the box and when the box is opened, the card is displayed upright. It lays flat when you close it. It's a fun way to hold a gift card or photo or even just a note. In front of the card is a perfect spot to write "to" and "from" and the amount of the gift card. I hope she likes her gift... and the box.

Family Tree Gift Set

I'm so happy to be part of the Stampendous Holiday Inspirations at Paper Craft Planet! Throughout the month of November, the PCP design team will share their projects each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you haven't been there lately, you've got to take a look at all the fun projects you can make for the holidays!

My project for today uses the Stampendous Cling Family Tree Set to make a gift ornament, something you can hang on your tree year after year. I also made my brand new template, Gift & Card Combo (a card with a gift box built-in!) to hold the gift. Here are the instructions for making the ornament.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Stamp image on a 4" x 6" piece of felt or other fabric. I used the ink that I've always used when coloring with Copic Markers -- Pitch Black from Adirondack.

2. Color carefully with markers.

3. Add embellishments like Glitter, Stickles, Rhinestones, etc...

4. Layer another piece of fabric behind image and cut both pieces together (to get the same shape) around image. I used my Scalloped Oval Nestabilities die to cut both pieces at once.

5. Stitch around edge with thin yarn or embroidery thread, leaving 2" open for stuffing. For non-sewers, you can use fabric glue like Fabri-Tac.

6. Stuff with fiber fill (batting) and continue to stitch or glue to close.

7. Sew or glue ribbon for hanging.

Santa Needs to Diet!

This template may look like something to decorate your house or desk with, but it's actually a card that lays flat for mailing! Now, if you don't believe in Santa Baby, no worries. There's a template for fire and logs to put inside the opening... or get creative and put a photo of someone or a pet sitting inside -- no flames, of course.

Included in this 3D Fireplace Card set are two types of stockings, a wreath, fire and logs, Santa's legs and of course, the box/card template. (The greenery used on this card is from a Martha Stewart punch.)

Make It a Movie Night

Before I continue on with my project, I'd like to take this time to salute all the brave veterans who have represented our great country. I try to think what it would be like to be in their shoes, but I know it's 1000 times worse than what I imagine.

I especially remember my father today who has served in two wars: the Korean War and WWII. He is a survivor of the infamous Bataan Death March which took place in the Philippines during WWII. I am so proud of him and love him dearly. He now has Alzheimer's Disease and although he no longer remembers who I am, he still remembers what he went through as a young man in the war. This photo was taken last year at my niece's wedding. During the time the photo was taken, he still knew who I was. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you during this Veterans Day. Oh, one more thing, today is my daughter's birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHELSEA! I LOVE YOU!

Now, on to more crafting...

Today I wanted to share this ultra simple Totally Tote-Able container. This one was literally put together in just a few minutes. I already had the pieces cut out, I just didn't know what to do with them yet. But last night as I was going through my pantry, I found some microwaveable popcorn and some hot cocoa mix and thought how perfect it would be as a gift for someone -- and they fit perfectly inside! OK, I forgot to add the video store gift card while I was taking these photos, so just pretend it's inside the box.

I love transparent containers! This one was cut easily with my Cricut using the SVG file. I used red double stick tape to put it together, wrapped a large bow and added one of my MarshFellow images. I quickly trimmed it and tacked it on with a a snowflake brad and glue dots. This was a last minute project, so I didn't go all out with the embellishments, just a quick tie of the ribbon. Simple.

As I mentioned in my last post, I will choose a random winner from yesterday's comments to receive a prize. The winner will receive the new "Totally Tote-Able" template along with the "Warm and Yummy Wishes" MarshFellow digital stamp image! And my random winner is.....

The first project I'd like to share with you is what I call "Carry-All," only because it can hold lots of things inside it! It takes only one piece of paper to make the basic box and adhesive is optional. It's very easy make, which probably means that you'll be using it over and over again.

Li'l Mit'n Felt Ornaments

These ornaments were so fast and easy to make and I'm pretty sure you'll agree. It's this week's 3D Challenge on Paper Craft Planet! I've included a template of the "Li'l Mit'n" and if you get intimidated about sewing, well sew what! Just kidding! No worries... there are actually adhesives like "Fabric-Tac" that takes the place of sewing. That's what I used on the ivory mittens. The burgundy mitten was sewn together using my sewing machine, but I got too lazy to change the thread, so I took out my fabric adhesive for the others.

Here are the simple steps to making one of these felt ornaments:
• Cut two pieces of felt using my template (located in this post) or use your own.
• Sew (or glue) close to the edges, leaving the bottom edge open.
• Stuff the mitten with batting (optional).
• Attach loop to one corner using a 5" string, folded in half and tied at the ends. (I used a large needle with the string to sew on to the corner.)
• Now, decorate!!!

Warm Christmas Mittens

Just a quick post here. I've been so busy with family issues and, like they say, "family comes first." Aside from my girls and the "drama" that comes with having teenage girls, my father is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and is becoming more and more confused and weak. It's hard when he has no idea who I am when I call him :( Then last week, my brother suffered a mild stroke. Thank goodness he's getting better. So, I haven't had much time to actually finish anything.

But, I was able to make this easy Christmas card using a template I made for my Cricket Expression (I love not having to cut by hand!). I filled the circles with a photo of my two girls and a sentiment made with my computer. The papers are retired SU! and luckily, I found some mini clothespins that were in my drawer of misc. craft items. I simply clipped them onto natural hemp and that's it!

3D Tuesday - Hexy Envy

Join me for this week's 3D challenge at Paper Craft Planet! The challenge is to see how creative you can be using a plain hexagon envelope and turn it into a fun little gift. Try putting a note, tea bag, photo, or a square piece of wrapped chocolate inside.

Once you have the template for this envy, all that's left for you to do is fold and decorate. I've included the PDF template, so why not come play along? (Cutter file can be found here.)

To keep this envy closed, I made a belly band out of a wide piece of ribbon and decorated it with my organza flower and red trinket pins, which you can get here.

3D Tuesday Challenge - Halloween Jack

Okay, so I've been MIA around here. It's just been one thing after another that has kept me from posting, which I really do miss! From my husband getting pneumonia, to my daughter getting the flu, and adjusting to my other daughter moving out to start college and basically trying to get reorganized. Another thing that's been taking a lot of my time is that I'm revamping my online shop, which I've just transferred to another site which has more options. Depending on how quickly the transition takes, the new shop should be up any minute now. In the meantime, I'm trying to add my new items to the site and hopefully all that will be done very soon, so I hope you'll stop by there for my reopening! Also, be sure to sign up for my updates over there. Doing so will keep you up to date on my specials and discount coupons!

Now for this project.... I'm hosting the 3d Tuesday Challenge on Paper Craft Planet and this is what I created for this week, my version of a Jack-o-Lantern. Of course I didn't use a real candle inside! Instead, I inserted a battery operated tea light candle to give it a safe glow. Initially, my template for this box was much narrower (only 1 inch deep), but when I thought about putting light in it, I decided to add another 3/4 inch to accommodate the tea light "candle." I made this one quite simple by just adding organdy ribbon on the top, but I also used it as a fun favor box to hold Halloween treats!

Sketch Challenge TIme!

Yay -- it's the weekend and I get to sleep in! I am not a morning person so when Friday comes along, that means I can get extra sleep on Saturday and Sunday! Anyway...

I made this card for a friend's mother who isn't well. The sentiment I used is one of my favorite Bible verses -- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." It's so comforting to know that God is here and that all we have to do is trust in Him because He cares for us.

Paper Bag Haunt

It's 3D Tuesday at Paper Craft Planet and the challenge this week is to make a "treat house" out of a paper bag. It can be a ginger bread house for Christmas or this one for Halloween. It's a cute way to hold treats and easy and fun to make! All you need are card stock of various colors, adhesive, a small paper bag and your choice of elements for decorating.

INSTRUCTIONS

Trim paper bag to the height you want the house to be.

For the roof, measure the width of the bag and add about 1/2" to that measurement. For the height, I cut the piece 6" and folded it in half.

The chimney piece is optional. Cut the piece 1-1/4" x 5". Fold piece in half as shown in photo above.

Make a slit in the roof about 1-1/2" wide (see photo above).

Adhere the top of the paper bag (the back of the house) to the inside of the roof. Attache it about 1" below top of roof.

Insert the top of the folded chimney through the slit. Slide the top edge of bag inside the bottom of chimney (about 3/4"; see striped area) and adhere both sides of the chimney to bag.

This shows the inside of the bag where the chimney is attached.

Slip the chimney through the slit on the roof to close the bag.

That's it! HAVE FUN DECORATING!

Here's a photo of Nolan (my 7 year old nephew), his buddy and my niece. I wanted to share a little something about his friend Kyle (center), also 7. The two boys were great buddies and both played in a little league in Dallas. Kyle passed away Saturday from a very rare disease caused by a parasite that was present in the lake where he and his family were vacationing. Apparently, after he and his family went swimming, Kyle began to have headaches and vomiting. He passed on within hours. Photo Gift Box

I still can't believe one of my girls is in college and lives in an apartment with three other students! That's her in the photo above two Christmases ago. She is taking Graphic Design and is so blessed with such creative talents! Her drawings are quite remarkable that her art instructor even displayed her first assignment at the school. Yes, I'm bragging...

Well, here's another version of my "Framed Box." I inserted a photo in the slot inside the box... a perfect box for personalized gifts. Details of my template and tutorial are found in my previous post.

3D Tuesday Challenge - Framed Box

This week's 3D Tuesday Challenge on PCP is to make this 2-3/4" x 3-3/4" x 1" framed box. This started out as a regular box, but I got to thinking that it would be more useful if I added a slot for a photo, gift card, or whatever you might want to frame. The red frame box above is holding a gift card for a Christmas present. I'm still not sure what to put inside of it, but it's large enough for candies, cookies, gift tags....

I've included a template and tutorial for this box in PDF (print and cut method), SVG and DXF files (for use with cutting machines). Cottage Rose Birthday

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far. I'm exhausted and am so looking forward to the weekend! We've finally finished painting my daughter's room and now we just have to get her some new furniture in there before school starts in a few days. Phew! I'm so glad the room is starting to look decent.

Favor with "Purse"-sonality

Happy Tuesday! I'm finally back from vacation and trying very hard to get back to the norm around here. The day after we got home, my younger daughter decided to paint her room -- after three color changes, we finally got the right one -- yes, we painted her whole room three times!!! But we had fun spending that time together so it was worth it.

Today is 3D Tuesday Challenge over at Paper Craft Planet and I'm the host! Come play along and you'll even get my template in PDF (for those who want to "print and cut") and SVG and DXF for those with cutting machines. (It's very important that you have the latest free version of Adobe Reader in order for the PDF files to open correctly.)

This little "purse" template is a fun way to hold sticky notes, chocolate, mini craft accessories, a mini sewing kit... just to name a few. In the photo above, I placed a sample of my new embellishments that will be up soon in my shop. The flaps on the sides of the purse helps keep the items in place -- no need for adhesives!
